What is UGC NET 2024?

The UGC NET (University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test) exam is a highly competitive exam conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency). For those who aim to become Assistant Professors or seek a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in various universities and colleges across India, this exam is considered one of the highly challenging and prestigious. The UGC NET 2024 exam is held twice a year, usually in June and December. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is conducting the UGC-NET in CBT (Computer Based Test) mode.

UGC NET Notification 2024- Important Dates

As UGC NET Notification 2024 has been released on 19th November 2024 for the December cycle, candidates who wish to appear for this examination must be aware of the dates for some important events for this examination. The UGC NET examination will be held from 1st January to 19th January 2025.

UGC NET December 2024 Notification Eligibility Criteria

Before applying for the UGC NET Examination, candidates must be aware of the basic eligibility criteria which is based on the age and educational qualification of a candidate. Any candidate who provides incorrect details about their age, or educational qualifications in the online registration form will have their application immediately rejected. Candidates can be sure to verify their eligibility before submitting their applications.

UGC NET Age Limit

Candidates who wish to apply for the UGC NET 2024 December cycle are required to fulfill a certain age limit and age relaxation is also provided to reserved categories like SC/ST, OBC-NCL, and PwD. Age limit criteria for JRf, Assistant Professorship & PhD are provided below:

• The candidates who are applying for the NTA NET Junior Research Fellowships, their age should not be more than 30 years old.
• There is no age limit specified by NTA for candidates applying for Assistant Professorships and admission to PhD.
• Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PwD get 5 years of age relaxations in the upper age limit for JRF.

UGC NET Educational Qualification

Educational Qualification plays a vital role in the UGC NET Examination. Candidates who have done their masters from UGC-recognized universities or are in the final semester are eligible for this national-level examination. Here are some other educational qualifications required to apply for the UGC NET 2024 Exam as follows:

• Candidates must be graduates of UGC-recognized universities or institutions with a master’s degree or its equivalent with a 55% mark.
• Those who have finished a 4-year/8-semester bachelor‘s degree program must have an aggregate score of at least 75% or its equivalent.
• Ph.D degree holders get a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks. Eligible candidates must complete their Master‘s degree examination by September 19th, 1991.
• Applicants who are currently in their final semester of a post-graduate degree are also capable of applying.
• Candidates must have scored 55% marks and 50% marks for reserved category students.

Application Fee- To complete the application process for UGC NET December 2024 you have to pay the application fee as per category-wise. Candidates belonging to the General category have to pay the application fees of Rs. 1150/-, for the EWS/OBC-NCL, it is Rs. 600/- and SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender have to pay Rs. 325/-. Applicable service/processing charges & GST over and above the Examination Fee, are to be paid by the
candidate to the concerned Bank/ Payment Gateway Integrator.
