What is the RRB Technician Exam?

The RRB Technician is a Group C recruitment examination conducted by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) on behalf of Indian Railways. It is held to recruit technically qualified candidates for Technician Grade 1 Signal and Technician Grade 3 posts across all railway zones in India. RRB Technician 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must carefully check their eligibility before applying. Eligibility is assessed on the basis of educational qualification, age limit, and nationality.

Education Qualification

• For Technician Grade 1 Signal: The candidates must hold a B.Sc. in Physics/Electronics/Computer Science/IT/Instrumentation or a Degree/Diploma in Engineering. OR B.Sc. in a combination of any sub-stream of basic streams of Physics/Electronics/Computer Science/Information Technology/Instrumentation from a recognised University/Institute OR Three years Diploma in Engineering in the above basic streams or in combination of any of the above basic streams (OR) Degree in Engineering in the above basic streams or combination of any of the above basic streams"
• For Technician Grade 3: The candidates must have completed their Matriculation/SSLC plus ITI from recognised institutions of NCVT/SCVT in the trade of Forger and Heat Treater/Foundryman / Pattern Maker / Moulder (Refractory). (OR) Matriculation/SSLC plus Course Completed Act Apprenticeship in the related trades.

Age Limit (as on 01/07/2026)

As mentioned in the RRB Technician Notification, the minimum age limit is 18 years, and the maximum age is different for both posts.

1. For Technician Grade 1 Signal posts: 18 to 33 years.
2. For Technician Grade 3 posts: 18 to 30 years

Age relaxation for Reserved Categories

Nationality

To be eligible, a candidate must fall into one of the following categories:

1. A citizen of India.
2. A citizen of Nepal or Bhutan.
3. A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before January 1, 1962, with the intent to settle permanently.
4. A person of Indian origin (PIO) who has migrated from specific countries (including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, etc.) to settle in India permanently.
    

RRB Technician Online Form 2026

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) will make the online application forms for RRB Technician Recruitment 2026 available on all regional websites. The RRB Technician Online Form 2026 process will commence from 30th June to 29th July 2026. Candidates must have their important documents handy while completing the application form.

RRB Technician Application Fee

While filling out the RRB Technician Application forms, candidates have to pay the required amount of application fees as per their category. Without an application fee, candidates' application forms will be considered incomplete and will be rejected. How to Apply for RRB Technician Recruitment 2026?

The registration process for RRB Technician Recruitment 2026 will commence at https://www.rrbapply.gov.in/, and candidates have to submit their applications online. 

1. On the start day of the registration process, visit https://www.rrbapply.gov.in/.
2. Create an Account, and register using your basic details (Name, Date of Birth, Email ID, Mobile Number, and Aadhaar Card).
3. Verify your account by entering the OTPs sent to your registered mobile number and email.
4. Use your generated registration credentials (or existing login if you recently applied for RRB ALP/NTPC) to log in to the portal.
5. Choose CEN No. 02/2026 (Technician) and select your preferred RRB Zone.
6. Carefully input your personal information, address, category, and educational or technical qualifications (e.g., ITI for Grade III, B.Sc or Diploma for Grade I Signal).
7. Upload scanned copies of your passport-size photograph, signature, and any required category or educational certificates in the prescribed format.
8. Complete the fee payment using online modes such as Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI.
9. Review all entered details carefully before final submission, and download or print the confirmation page for future reference.

RRB Technician Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Technician selection process comprises three stages:

1. Stage 1- Computer-Based Test (CBT):  The test consists of 100 objective-type multiple-choice questions with a duration of 90 minutes.
2. Stage 2- Document Verification- During this stage, candidates must present original academic certificates, proof of age, technical qualifications (like ITI or relevant diplomas), and community certificates.
3. Stage 3- Medical Examination- After passing the document verification, candidates must undergo a medical fitness test conducted by the Railway Administration.

RRB Technician 2026 Exam Pattern 

The CBT will be conducted online with 100 objective-type (MCQ) questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes. There is negative marking of 1/3 mark for each wrong answer. Questions left unanswered carry no penalty.

How Many Times Can You Attempt RRB Technician?

There is no fixed upper limit on the number of attempts for the RRB Technician exam. Candidates can appear as many times as they remain eligible — primarily defined by the age limit.

RRB Technician Salary Structure 2026

Appointed candidates for Technician posts will be paid a monthly salary, allowance, and perks. RRB Technician Salary for both Grade 1 and Grade 3 are different. The salary for Technician Grade 1 Signal posts will be Rs. 29,200/- and the salary for Technician Grade 3 posts is Rs. 19,900 as pay level 2.

RRB Technician 2026 Preparation Strategy

With applications opening on 30th June and the CBT expected in late 2026, aspirants have a window of approximately 3–4 months for focused preparation. Here is a month-wise strategy:

Month 1- Foundation

Build concepts: Number System, Algebra (Maths); Analogies, Coding-Decoding (Reasoning); Physics & Chemistry basics (General Science); Railway GK overview.

Month 2- Practice

Solve sectional question banks. Cover Basic Science & Engineering topics (Grade 1) or ITI trade-specific science (Grade 3). Attempt 2–3 quizzes daily. Identify weak areas.

Month 3- Mock Tests

Attempt full-length mock tests under exam conditions. Analyze each test, fix weak areas. Start General Awareness current affairs revision (last 6 months).

Month 4 — Revision

Solve 5–6 Previous Year Question Papers (PYPs). 3–4 full mocks per week. Revise formulas, shortcuts, important GK facts. Focus on speed and accuracy.
