Benefits of Practising CTET Previous Year Papers

Practicing the CTET previous year question papers regularly offers the following concrete advantages:

  1. Understand the exact exam pattern. Seeing real papers shows you exactly how questions are structured, how instructions are phrased, and how sections are sequenced — things no textbook can replicate.
  2. Identify high-weightage topics. After solving 5–6 papers, you will notice that certain topics (like Piaget's theory, fractions, or water conservation in EVS) appear in almost every exam. This helps you prioritise your study time.
  3. Understand the difficulty level. CTET questions are often application-based rather than fact-based — especially in CDP and Language. PYQs help you adapt to this style of questioning.
  4. Improve time management. With 150 questions in 150 minutes, you need to develop a sense of pacing. Timed practice with PYQs trains you to attempt all sections without rushing.
  5. Identify weak areas. Scoring yourself after each paper reveals which subjects or sub-topics need more attention. This makes your revision targeted and efficient.
  6. Build exam-day confidence. Candidates who have attempted 10+ PYQs walk into the exam hall with a familiarity that reduces anxiety and improves performance.
  7. Stay updated on question trends. Comparing papers from 2018 to 2026 shows how the difficulty level and question style have evolved, helping you align your preparation to the current pattern.

How To Use the CTET Previous Year Question Paper?

Step 1: Complete the basic syllabus first- Before attempting any PYQ, ensure you have covered the fundamental concepts from NCERT books for the relevant classes and standard CTET preparation material. Attempting papers without conceptual clarity leads to wrong reinforcement.

Step 2: Simulate actual exam conditions- Take a printout of the question paper and a sample OMR sheet. Sit in a quiet room and set a timer for 150 minutes. Attempt the entire paper without any interruptions or reference material.

Step 3: Self-evaluate honestly- Once time is up, check your answers using the official answer key. Count your correct, incorrect, and unattempted responses. Calculate your score (1 mark per correct answer, no negative marking).

Step 4: Analyse errors thoroughly- For every wrong answer, understand WHY you got it wrong — was it a conceptual gap, a reading error, or a guess that went wrong? Note down all such questions in a revision diary.

Step 5: Revise weak topics- Go back to the study material for topics where you made repeated errors. Solve targeted practice questions on those topics before attempting the next full paper.

Step 6: Repeat and track progress- Solve at least one full paper per week during your preparation. Track your score trend — you should see consistent improvement. Aim for 120+ in your practice papers to give yourself a comfortable buffer for the actual exam.

Step 7: Revise using PYQs in the final week- In the last 7 days before the exam, go through only PYQs — do not start new topics. Focus on revising concepts reinforced by the most frequently repeated questions.

FAQs

You can download all CTET previous year question papers (2018–2026) for free directly from this page. PDFs for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 are available year-wise and session-wise in the download tables above. For the most official source, you can also visit the CBSE CTET archive at ctet.nic.in/archive.

Official answer key PDFs are available for CTET 2019 (both July and December sessions) on this page. For 2021 onwards, official answer keys from CBSE can be downloaded from ctet.nic.in. Detailed solved papers with explanations are also available through Career Power's study materials.

You should aim to solve at least the last 5 years of CTET papers (2021–2026). However, for comprehensive preparation — especially to identify repeated topics and question trends — solving papers from 2018 to 2026 (all available sessions) gives the most thorough insight. Start with 2018 or 2019 for baseline practice, then move to recent years.

Yes. Candidates who want to be eligible to teach Classes 1 to 8 can appear for both Paper 1 and Paper 2 in the same exam cycle. Each paper is conducted separately and requires separate preparation. Qualifying both papers earns you a certificate applicable for both primary (1–5) and upper primary (6–8) teaching posts.

Paper 1 is generally considered slightly easier than Paper 2, as it covers primary-level academic content. However, the difficulty can vary by session and individual strengths. Candidates with a strong background in Maths or Science often find Paper 2 manageable, while those weaker in these subjects may find Paper 1's CDP and Language sections more straightforward.

Start with the CTET 2018 or July 2019 paper — these are rated Easy to Easy-Moderate and serve as the best entry point for first-time aspirants. Once comfortable, progress to 2021 and 2022 papers (Moderate difficulty), and finally to 2023 and 2024 papers to calibrate for current exam standards.
