Over 48.83 Lakh Candidates to Appear for SSC GD Exam 2026 for 25487 Vacancies, Exam From 23 February

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has replied to an RTI for the SSC GD 2026 Exam, notifying that over 48,83,309 applications have been received this year. 48.83 candidates have to now compete for 25,487 vacancies across the central armed police forces and other ministries. The Computer-Based Examination (CBE) will start from 23rd February 2026 onwards, to be held on multiple days in a multi-shift format. Through this recruitment drive,  10th-pass candidates will be selected for General Duty Constable posts for BSF, CISF, CRPF, SSB, ITBP, AR, SSF, and Narcotics Control Bureau.

Over 48.83 Candidates to Appear for SSC GD Exam

SSC released the official exam calendar, marking the final countdown for aspirants. As the number of candidates is more than 48 lakh, so the commission will conduct the exam on multiple days and multiple shifts. The CBT exam will start from 23rd February 2026 and expected to be concluded till 8th March 2026, shortlisting candidates for the physical round.

Total Applicants: 48,83,129 (a slight dip from last year’s 50+ lakh but still record-breaking).

Vacancies Breakdown: 24,208 for male constables, 1,279 for female constables (including backlog posts).

Exam Mode: Online CBT with 80 objective questions (160 marks) in 60 minutes – bilingual (English/Hindi).

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks per wrong answer.

Aspirants can download their SSC GD Admit Card 2026 from the official SSC website starting 18th February 2026 (four days before the scheduled exam date).

The SSC GD exam focuses on the basics from four sections: General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi. Expect questions on current affairs (last 6-12 months), history, geography, science, and arithmetic.

GK: Cover 2025-2026 exam notifications, sports, awards, and government schemes – aiming to learn maximum current affairs from the past 6 months.

Math: Practice simplification, percentage, ratio, time-speed-distance (target to practice at least 20 questions a day)
