Around 35 lakh candidates have submitted their applications for the SSC GD Examination 2026, and some of them might be confused about whether the exam will be conducted or not. The candidates need not worry as the exam will definitely be conducted, but on revised dates, which are expected to be announced very soon.
While the official notice confirms the postponement, SSC hasn’t specified a clear reason for the SSC GD 2026 Exam Postponement, but it may be due to some administrative reasons. Check the official notice attached below.

- The SSC GD CBT exam was originally scheduled for 23rd February 2026
- SSC officially postponed the exam, citing administrative reasons
- The self-slot booking facility (where candidates chose their preferred date and shift) was also cancelled
- The SSC GD New Exam Date 2026 is expected to be announced in March 2026 on ssc.gov.in
- Once dates are announced, the City Intimation Slip will be released 8–10 days before the exam
- The Admit Card will be available approximately 4 days before the exam date
What Has Changed for SSC GD Candidates?
Here’s how the postponement affects applicants:
- Exam City Intimation Slip Delayed- The city intimation slip, which lets candidates see their exam city and tentative date, has been postponed along with the main exam and will be issued ahead of the revised exam dates.
- Self Slot Allocation- Since the self-slot booking feature has been scrapped, SSC will now assign exam shifts and cities automatically rather than letting candidates select them.
- New Dates Will Be Announced Soon- Once the new date for the SSC GD 2026 exam is finalised, it will be published on the SSC’s official portal under the “Latest News” or “Notices” sections. Candidates should keep checking ssc.gov.in for updates.
SSC GD City Intimation & Admit Card Release Date
SSC has clarified the timeline for the release of exam city intimation slips and admit cards. As mentioned in the official notice, the exam city slips with the scheduled exam date, shift, and city will be released around 8 to 10 days before the exam date, and admit cards will be released 2 to 3 days before the scheduled exam date.
Candidates will need to use their Registration ID / Roll Number and Date of Birth to download their city slips and admit card from the official SSC website (www.ssc.gov.in).
What Aspirants Must Do Now
Candidates preparing for the SSC GD 2026 exam should:
- Regularly visit the official SSC website for updated notices.
- Stay prepared academically so that they can face the exam on the revised date without a last-minute rush.
- Monitor official notifications for the release of admit cards and intimation slips.
- Keep all essential documents ready (ID, registration details, photograph, etc.) once new dates are announced.

SSC GD 2026 Exam Pattern
SSC GD 2026 Examination will be conducted in Computer-Based mode, consisting of 80 MCQ based questiosns for a total of 160 marks.
- Mode of Exam – Online
- Type of Questions – Multiple Choice Based/Objective type
- Total Section – 4 (General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/ Hindi)
- Total Questions – 80 MCQS in total (20 MCQs in each section)
- Total Marks – 160 (2 marks for each correct answer)
- Time Duration – 60 minutes (1 hour), and there is no sectional timing
- Negative Marking – A penalty of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer
SSC GD Selection Process 2026
Candidates shortlisted from the CBE must clear all of the following rounds to be finally selected:
- Stage 1 – Computer-Based Examination (CBE): 80 questions, 160 marks, 60 minutes
- Stage 2 – Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Running, long jump, high jump tasks (gender-specific standards)
- Stage 3 – Physical Standard Test (PST): Verification of height and chest measurements
- Stage 4 – Medical Examination: Conducted at a designated medical centre
- Stage 5 – Document Verification: Final check of all original certificates and documents
