RRB JE Eligibility Criteria 2026: Check Age Limit, Qualification, Medical Standards

The Railway Recruitment Board has announced a total of 4098 vacancies for Junior Engineer, Depot Material Superintendent, Chemical Supervisor & Metallurgical Assistant posts, for which registration is important to appear in the examination. Candidates who want to apply for the RRB JE 2026 should check the RRB JE eligibility criteria before filling out the application form, which includes knowing the age limit, educational qualifications, nationality, and other important conditions set by the exam authority. RRB JE Age Limit 2026

Candidates who are willing to apply for the RRB JE Recruitment 2026 must fall between 18 and 33 years. Candidates should be born on or before 01/01/2008, and the maximum age varies by category.

Candidates in Quasi-Administrative Railway Offices (like canteens, co-op societies, and institutes) Age relaxation = Length of service OR 5 years (whichever is less)
Widowed / Divorced / Judicially Separated Female Candidates (not remarried) UR & EWS: 35 years
OBC-NCL: 38 years
SC & ST: 40 years

Note:- Make sure to enter the same date of birth in the application form as mentioned on your SSLC/Matriculation or any other equivalent certificate.

RRB JE Educational Qualifications

While filling out the application form for RRB JE Vacancy 2026, candidates need to have completed some minimum educational qualifications as prescribed by the Railway Recruitment Board. The candidates must have completed an Engineering diploma/degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Electronics Engineering/Production Engineering/Automobile, or any other relevant engineering discipline.

RRB JE Nationality

Apart from the candidate’s age and qualifications, the candidate’s citizenship/nationality is another parameter for evaluating the eligibility for Junior Engineer posts. The candidate should be one of the following:
(i) an Indian citizen;
(ii) a citizen of Nepal;
(iii) a subject of Bhutan;
(iv) a Tibetan refugee who entered India before January 1, 1962, to settle there permanently; or
(v) an Indian national who has immigrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka; East African countries such as Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania; Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam to settle in India permanently.

RRB JE Medical Standards

Candidates must be medically fit for RRB Junior Engineer posts as per the norms prescribed by official authorities. There are different vision standards specific to A-3, B-1, B-2, and C1 medical standards which are tabulated below.

A-3 (i)Distance Vision: 6/9, 6/9 with or without glasses (power of lenses not to exceed 2D),
(ii)Near Vision: Sn:0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses, and
(iii) Must pass the test for Colour vision, Binocular vision, Night vision, and Mesopic vision.
B-1 (i) Distance Vision: 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (power of lenses not to exceed 4D).
(ii)Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required and
(iii) Must pass the test for Colour vision, Binocular vision, Night vision, and Mesopic vision.
B-2 (i)Distance Vision: 6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses (power of lenses not to exceed 4D).
(ii)Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required and
(iii) Must pass test for Binocular vision.
C-1 (i) Distance Vision: 6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses and
(ii) Near Vision: Sn: 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close

Note:- If any candidate has undergone LASIK or any other surgery for correction of refractive error are not eligible to apply for Junior Engineer posts that require medical standards A-3.
