UPTET Eligibility 2026: Check Eligibility, Age Limit, Number of Attempts

The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) is conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection (UPESSC). It is a mandatory exam for those candidates who aspire to become teachers in primary (Classes 1-5) and upper primary (6-8) schools in Uttar Pradesh. The examination is broadly divided into two papers: paper 1 is for those candidates who wish to teach classes 1st to 5th (primary level), and paper 2 is for those who aim to teach classes 6th to 8th (upper primary level). Candidates can also appear in both papers if they want to be eligible for both levels.

UPTET Eligibility Criteria 2026

Understanding the eligibility criteria is the first step toward a teaching career in Uttar Pradesh. Aspirants who qualified for the Graduation with B.T.C/B.Ed./D.El.Ed., can apply for this examination. The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board described the eligibility requirements in detail. The qualification of TET will be based on their performance in the written exam.

Uttar Pradesh TET Educational Qualification

Professional qualification depends on the candidates applying for the primary level or the upper primary level. Aspirants who do not meet the eligibility criteria can not apply online for the UP TET Exam 2026.

Educational Qualification for Paper 1 (Classes 1-5)

  • Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed/BTC) from an NCTE-recognised institution affiliated with the UP Government.
  • Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) from a distance learning mode.
  • Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Education (D.Ed.) in Special Education from an RCI-recognised institution. Graduation and BTC training from an NCTE-recognised institution in Uttar Pradesh.

Educational Qualification for Paper 2 (Classes 6 to 8)

  • Graduation and 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed/BTC).
  • Graduation with at least 50% marks and a 1-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
  • Graduation with at least 45% marks (for those with prior B.Ed. as per NCTE norms) and B.Ed.
  • Intermediate (10+2) with at least 50% marks and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (D.El.Ed).
  • Intermediate (10+2) with at least 50% marks and 4-year B.A.Ed./B.Sc.Ed.

UPTET Age Limit

The commission has set the age criteria for the TET exam. The Commission use the matriculation marksheet as Date of Birth proof or equivalent certificate.

  1. The minimum and maximum age limit for the general category candidates is 18 years to 35 years for paper 1, and the minimum & maximum age for paper 2 is 21 years to 40 years.
  2. There is age relaxation for reserved category candidates as per the state government norms. Age relaxations are mentioned as follows.

OBC/SC/ST: 5 years Age Relaxations

PWD Candidate: 15 years Age Relaxations

Ex-Serviceman: 5 years Age Relaxations

UPTET Number of Attempts

The exam-conducting body of UP TET offers great flexibility to candidates when it comes to the number of attempts. There is no such limit to the number of attempts for the UP TET Examination. Candidates can apply multiple times within the age limit.
