What is Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS)?
Gramin Dak Sevak, also called GDS, are workers in rural post offices throughout India. They handle mail delivery, sell stamps, and offer various postal services to residents of villages and small towns.
The GDS positions are divided into three primary categories.
- Dak Sevak – Works in departmental offices for mail delivery and other services
- Branch Post Master (BPM) – Manages a branch post office
- Assistant Branch Post Master (ABPM) – Assists the BPM in post office work
India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria in terms of education qualification and age limit have been discussed below.
Educational Qualification
- Secondary School Examination pass certificate of 10th standard from any recognised Board of School Education by the Government of India/State Governments,/ Union Territories in India
Age Limit
Candidates must fall in the age group of 18 years to 40 years. The upper age Relaxations in the reserved category are as follows:
- SC/ST Candidates: 5 years (up to 45 years)
- OBC Candidates: 3 years (up to 43 years)
- EWS Candidates: No age relaxation
- Persons with Disabilities (PwD): 10 years
- PwD + OBC: 13 years
- PwD + SC/ST: 15 years
Other Qualifications Required
- Knowledge of computer
- Knowledge of cycling
- Adequate means of livelihood
India Post Office GDS Online Form 2026
The applications are invited from 10th pass candidates, and the window to accept the forms has been opened with the release of the India Post GDS Notification 2026. The candidates have to submit their applications online at https://indiapostgdsonline.gov.in/ from 2nd to 16th February 2026.
Application Fee
To complete the India Post GDS Application Form 2026, the candidates have to pay an application fee. The fee has to be paid in online mode through Credit/Debit cards and Net Banking.

India Post GDS Selection Process
The candidates are shortlisted for GDS posts based on a system-generated merit list. The Merit list is prepared based on marks obtained in the Secondary School Examination of the 10th standard. The merit list will be released separately for all 23 circles at https://indiapostgdsonline.gov.in/.
- The Merit list is prepared based on marks obtained/ conversion of Grades/Points to marks in the Secondary School Examination of 10th standard of approved Boards, aggregated to a percentage to the accuracy of 4 decimals.
- For applicants whose 10th standard mark sheet shows both marks and Grades/points, only their total marks will be calculated, taking into account the marks obtained in all compulsory and elective/optional subjects (excluding extra subjects, if any).
- For applicants with only subject-wise grades, marks will be calculated for each subject (both compulsory and elective subjects, but not extra subjects), applying a multiplying factor of 9.5 in the following manner.

India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 Document Verification
The candidates whose names have been listed in the India Post GDS Result PDF, which will be released circle-wise, have to appear for the document verification round to get a final appointment to the posts of Gramin Dak Sevak in their respective circles. The candidates have to carry the following documents for DV.
- 10th/SSC/SSLC Original Marks Memo of the candidates
- Caste or Community Certificate (For candidates from the reserved category)
- 60 days of Computer Knowledge, a Trained Certificate from a recognised institute
- Physically Handicapped Certificate (If Applicable)
