The KPSC sets the KAS Syllabus. The KPSC KAS Syllabus 2024 is common for posts of Assistant Commissioner, Dy. Superintendent of Police, Assistant Labour Commissioner, Tehsildar. If the candidate gets selected as a KAS officer can later also be promoted to IAS Officer.

KPSC KAS Selection Process 2024

For a career in Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) the Karnataka Public Service Commission conducts the KPSC KAS Exam 2024 in three stages:

  • Stage 1: The first stage is the Preliminary Exam: the preliminary exam will have 2 papers based on objective type (MCQs) questions. 
  • Stage 2: The second is the Mains consisting of 7 papers. These papers are based on
  • Stage 3: Candidates qualifying in the main stage will appear for the final Interview round of the KPSC KAS 2024.

KPSC Karnataka Administrative Service Exam Pattern 2024

  • Paper 1 and Paper 2 consist of 100 questions of 200 marks for each paper. 
  • The time duration of each paper is 2 hours. 
  • As per the rules, there will be 0.25 negative marks for every wrong answer. 
  • Only candidates who will qualify for the prelims will appear for the Mains.

The detailed syllabus of Prelims Paper 1:

KPSC KAS Paper 1 covers two areas: the national and international importance and Humanities

  • Current Affairs– National and International Importance
  • Indian History– Broad understanding of Cultural, Social, Political, and Economic aspects, Special Emphasis on Karnataka State, Focus on the Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography- Focus on Karnataka
  • Polity and Indian Economy– Indian Political System, Economic Reforms, Rural Development and Poverty Alleviation, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.

The Detail Syllabus of Prelims Paper 2:

KPSC KAS Paper 2 covers three areas: General Studies (State Importance), General Science, and Tech. Environment and Ecology, General Mental Ability. 

  • Current events (State)
  • Important State Government schemes.
  • General Science and Technology-Broad understanding as may be expected of a well-educated person, Contemporary issues/developments and implications
  • Environment and Ecology- Broad understanding of general issues on biodiversity, climate change, ecology, and health that do not require a subject specialization. 
  • General Mental Ability- Basic numeracy, Data interpretation (data sufficiency, charts, tables, graphs, etc.), Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Comprehension. 

Except for state-specific topics, the exam syllabus of the KPSC KAS is quite similar to the UPSC syllabus. This exam is considered highly competitive. Every year a large number of candidates prepare for this exam. 

KPSC Syllabus 2024 for Main Exam

The KAS Syllabus for the KPSC Gazetted Probationers (Main) exam is as follows:

Qualifying Papers:

  • Kannada
  • English

Both contents have 150 marks for a duration of 2 hours each. Syllabus for both the Language paper: 

  • Comprehension-25 Marks
  • Precis- 25 Marks 
  • Usage- 25 marks 
  • Vocabulary- 25 Marks 
  • Short Essay- 25 Marks
  • Communication Skills- 25 Marks

KPSC KAS Merit-ranking Papers:

The KPSC KAS Merit- ranking Papers are Essay, General Studies 1, General Studies 2, General Studies 3, and General Studies 4. For each paper, the maximum mark is 250 and the time duration is 3 hours. 

KPSC KAS Essay Paper:

There will be two essays (Kannada or English) of 125 marks each. The first topic will be on national or international issues. The second topic will be on state or local issues. 

KPSC KAS G1 Paper:

  • Current events (State)
  • Important State Government schemes.
  • General Science and Technology-Broad understanding as may be expected of a well-educated person, Contemporary issues/developments and implications
