The exam pattern for the Junior Administrative Assistant (JAA) is as follows:
Written Test
- Type: OMR-based objective questions with Multiple Choices
- Duration: 2 hours
- Total Marks: 120 marks
(i) Subjects: General English- 50 marks
General Knowledge (including Computer Knowledge)- 30 marks
General Aptitude- 20 marks
(ii) Assamese Language (Official Language of Assam): Marks: 20 marks
Nature: Qualifying only - Each question carries 1 mark
- Negative marking: 0.25 mark deducted for every wrong answer

Candidates in the ratio of 1:5 (5 times the number of posts in a district) from the rank-wise written test merit list will move to Stage 2.
Computer Skill Test
- Typing Test (20 Marks) will be conducted using typing application software
- Proficiency Test (15 Marks) on word processing and spreadsheet software will be held.
Candidates in the ratio of 1:3 (3 times the number of posts in a district) from the combined marks of Stage 1 and Stage 2 will be called for the next stage. After clearing this stage, an Interview of 20 marks will be conducted.
