SSC CGL Sliding Mechanism 2025-26 Starts, Qualified Candidates Book Your Slot

After tentative allocation, SSC CGL shortlisted candidates have to visit the SSC Regional Office for Identity Verification (IV), done using Aadhaar authentication. Candidates are provided 10 days to complete this process at the Regional Director (RD) Office. An initial First Round of Tentative Allocation (FRTA) is conducted based on candidate preferences, following existing practices. This is essentially the same as the current system — you get a post based on your rank and the preferences you filled in the application.

What is SSC Sliding Mechanism?

Every year, many selected candidates either skip the Document Verification or don’t join their allotted post. This leaves government seats empty. The Sliding Mechanism fixes this by giving those seats to the next eligible, willing candidate — in a single reallocation round. The objective of the Sliding Mechanism is to ensure maximum filling of vacancies in a given examination cycle, provide fair and merit-based opportunities to candidates, and minimise unfilled vacancies arising from absenteeism. It establishes a single round of reallocation for unutilized vacancies.

Step-by-Step: How SSC CGL Sliding Mechanism Process Works?

The slot booking window is already open for SSC CGL 2025 Qualified candidates, log in to www.ssc.gov.in immediately. Follow the step-by-step procedure discussed below.

Step 1- Book Your Slot Online

  • Log in to the SSC Candidate Portal at www.ssc.gov.in.
  • Only qualified candidates will see the option: “Identity Verification / Sliding Venue Details”.
  • Choose your preferred City/State, date, and time slot.
  • There are 4 daily slots: 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM.
  • Slots are first-come, first-served — green means available, red means full.
  • Once booked, the slot cannot be changed.

Step 2- Visit the Regional Office for Identity Verification

  • Physically go to your chosen SSC Regional Office on your booked date.
  • Carry your original Aadhaar card and the printed slot confirmation slip.
  • Verification involves: a live photo capture, Aadhaar biometric authentication, and fingerprint matching.
  • Bring the mobile number that is registered in your application form- you’ll need it for the Aadhaar OTP.

Step 3- Choose FIX or FLOAT

At the venue, you must declare one of two options in writing :

FIX: You accept your currently allotted post as final. No upgrade. Safe and settled.

FLOAT: You want a chance at a better/higher-preference post if vacancies open up.

Step 4 – The Sliding Round

  • After Identity Verification, SSC identifies all seats left vacant due to absenteeism.
  • It then conducts one single sliding round- reallocating those vacancies to FLOAT candidates based on merit and preference order.

Step 5- Final Result

SSC publishes an updated final result with revised post allocations and sends e-dossiers to departments for appointment. This result is binding on everyone.

What happens if you don’t show up at the Regional Office for Sliding Process?
Candidates who fail to appear during the 10-day window will be treated as absent, and their candidature may not be considered further in the process.
