BPSC ASO Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The Bihar Public Service Commission has prescribed a minimum requirement that a candidate must meet to apply for the BPSC ASO Recruitment 2026. If the candidates who have applied for the recruitment don’t meet the eligibility criteria, their applications will be rejected. So, candidates need to know the criteria to determine whether they are eligible or not. The criteria include educational qualification and age limit, for which the requirements are discussed below.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university. The degree should be completed before the last date of submission of the application.

The candidates who apply for the BPSC ASO Recruitment 2026 have to pay an Application fee before submitting their applications. The selection of the candidates will be done through a 4-stage selection process. The candidates who want to be selected for the ASO post have to clear all 4 stages. The 4 stages of the selection process will be as follows;

BPSC Assistant Section Officer Exam Pattern
The BPSC ASO Exam 2026 will be conducted in 2 stages, i.e., preliminary exam and mains exam. The candidates who will be qualified for the prelims exam will be eligible to appear for the mains exam. Below, we have provided the exam pattern for both exams.
Preliminary Examination
The details regarding the prelims exam have been discussed below;
- The preliminary examination will be conducted in open-book format; candidates are allowed to carry books with them, one book per subject.
- Only textbooks from NCERT/BSEB/ICSE or other boards are allowed. Guides, photocopies of books, or handwritten notes are prohibited inside the exam hall.
- There will be 150 questions asked from General Studies, General Science and Mathematics, and Mental Ability
- All questions will be objective and multiple-choice type
- Each Question Carries 1 mark
- The duration of the examination will be 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Based on the total marks (exam + contractual preference) in prelims, 10 times the number of vacancies will be called for the main examination.
Mains Examination
The Main Examination consists of two papers, i.e., Paper 1 (General Hindi) and Paper 2 (General Knowledge)
(1) Paper 1 (General Hindi)
- The exam will consist of objective and multiple-choice questions.
- A total of 100 questions will be asked for 100 marks
- Minimum qualifying marks in Hindi are 30%, which is mandatory
- Marks obtained in the Hindi paper will not be considered.
- The duration of the exam is 2 hours and 15 minutes
