BPSC ASO Recruitment 2026- Overview

The commission will conduct three stages for the BPSC ASO Exam 2026 i.e. Prelims, Mains, and Interview, to select eligible candidates for 41 vacant posts for Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in Bihar Public Service Commission, Patna. The selected candidates will receive a salary as per pay level 7, ranging from Rs. 44900-142400/-.

BPSC ASO Mains Exam Date 2026 Out

Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has announced the BPSC ASO Mains Exam Date under Advt. No. 37/2025.  As per the schedule, the BPSC ASO Mains Exam is on 27th February 2026 (Friday). BPSC ASO Vacancy 2026

The vacancies have been announced for 7 categories, including Unreserved, Economically Weaker Section, Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Backwards Class, Extremely Backwards Class, and Women from Backwards Classes. BPSC ASO Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

The Bihar Public Service Commission has prescribed a minimum requirement that a candidate must meet to apply for the BPSC ASO Recruitment 2026. If the candidates who have applied for the recruitment don’t meet the eligibility criteria, their applications will be rejected. So, candidates need to know the criteria to determine whether they are eligible or not. The criteria include educational qualification and age limit, for which the requirements are discussed below.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university. The degree should be completed before the last date of submission of the application.

Age Limit & Age Relaxation

As per the official notification, the candidates who want to apply for the recruitment must have a minimum age of 21 years, and the maximum age should be 37 years as on 1st August 2025. The commission has also provided age relaxation in the upper age limit for the various categories that have been mentioned in the table below.

BPSC ASO Recruitment 2026 Application Fee

The candidates who apply for the BPSC ASO Recruitment 2026 have to pay an Application fee before submitting their applications. It is mandatory for the candidates to pay the fee, as any application without the fee will be rejected. The selection of the candidates will be done through a 4-stage selection process. The candidates who want to be selected for the ASO post have to clear all 4 stages. The 4 stages of the selection process will be as follows;

• Priliminary Examination
• Mains Examination
• Interview
• Document Verification

BPSC Assistant Section Officer Exam Pattern

The BPSC ASO Exam 2026 will be conducted in 2 stages, i.e., preliminary exam and mains exam. The candidates who will be qualified for the prelims exam will be eligible to appear for the mains exam. Below, we have provided the exam pattern for both exams.

Preliminary Examination

The details regarding the prelims exam have been discussed below;

• The preliminary examination will be conducted in open-book format; candidates are allowed to carry books with them, one book per subject.
• Only textbooks from NCERT/BSEB/ICSE or other boards are allowed. Guides, photocopies of books, or handwritten notes are prohibited inside the exam hall.
• There will be 150 questions asked from General Studies, General Science and Mathematics, and Mental Ability
• All questions will be objective and multiple-choice type
• Each Question Carries 1 mark
• The duration of the examination will be 2 hours and 15 minutes.

Based on the total marks (exam + contractual preference) in prelims, 10 times the number of vacancies will be called for the main examination.

Mains Examination

The Main Examination consists of two papers, i.e., Paper 1 (General Hindi) and Paper 2 (General Knowledge)

(1) Paper 1 (General Hindi)

• The exam will consist of objective and multiple-choice questions.
• A total of 100 questions will be asked for 100 marks
• Minimum qualifying marks in Hindi are 30%, which is mandatory
• Marks obtained in the Hindi paper will not be considered.
• The duration of the exam is 2 hours and 15 minutes

(2) Paper 2 (General Knowledge)

• There will be 150 questions asked from General Studies, General Science and Mathematics, and Mental Ability, the same as prelims
• Each correct answer gives you 1 mark, and candidates must complete the exam in 2 hours and 15 minutes

BPSC ASO Salary 2026

The post, Assistant Section Officer (ASO), comes under Pay Level 7, with a salary ranging from Rs. 44900 to Rs. 142400 per month. Along with the salary, they will get extra perks and allowances as per the 7th Pay Commission guidelines.
