TNPSC Group 2 & Group 2A- Mains Exam Pattern

TNPSC Combined Civil Services Examination – II (Group II and IIA Services) comprises two successive stages: Common Preliminary Examination and Separate Main Examination for Group II and Group IIA Services.

Note: Before this, the Group 2 examination had an interview, and the Group 2A vacancies did not have an interview. As per the official notification, the third stage of the examination, i.e., interviews for the post of Group 2 exams, were cancelled.

TNPSC Group 2 & Group 2A – Salary

• Group 2 posts fall in higher pay levels, commonly Level 18 and Pay Level 16
• Group 2A posts, especially clerical and support roles, sit in comparatively lower pay levels from Pay Level 9 to 12

Which Should You Prepare For: Group 2 or Group 2A?

• If candidates are comfortable with descriptive writing, lean into Group 2 preparation, practice writing for General Studies topics
• If you prefer objective testing and are faster at MCQ-style problem solving, Group 2A plays to your strengths.
• Either way, your Preliminary Exam pattern is the same for both; Group 2 is a descriptive exam, and Group 2A paper 2 is an objective-based exam.
