The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) has released the official notification for the Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) on its official website, inviting online applications from interested and eligible candidates for the DBT Biotechnology Eligibility Test 2025. The registrations are ongoing at www.dbtbet2025.ntaonline.in, if interested, do submit your application with any delay. Through the DBT BET Exam 2025, the candidates will be awarded the DBT-Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF) for pursuing research in areas of biotechnology.

DBT BET JRF Exam 2025

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT) conducts the online Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET) every year to shortlist eligible candidates who can pursue research in biotech as a career or join various Indian universities as Assistant Professors. Through DBT BET Exam 2025, two categories of merit lists are prepared when the result is released. In category 1, the candidates who are eligible to get the fellowships are included and registered for the Ph.D. in Indian universities. In Category 2, the candidates can only be appointed to a DBT-sponsored project and are not eligible for the standard DBT BET JRF at any university, unlike Category 1.

How to Fill the DBT BET Exam 2025 Application Form?

The candidates can follow the steps below to fill out the online DBT BET 2025 Application Form. Only “Online” applications are accepted for DBT BET 2025. Any other form of application will not be accepted.

1. The applicant needs to carefully read the instructions found in the information bulletin that is posted on the NTA website. Candidates must confirm their eligibility before proceeding.
2. Register online with your email address and mobile number.
3. Complete the online application form, attaching your signature, photo, and, if relevant, your social category, PwD certificate, or appearing certificate.
4. Use the payment gateway to pay fees using Net Banking, a debit card, a credit card, UPI, or a wallet. Keep a copy of the fee acknowledgement for your records.
5. After the payment of the fee, a confirmation page will appear on your screen; make sure you download it and get a printout of it.
6. The applicant’s name, contact information, category, PwD status, educational background, birthdate, exam city preference, and other information entered in the online application form will be considered final. NTA will not consider any requests for changes to such details after the correction period has ended.
7. Upload the necessary documents, like photograph, signatures, marksheets, certificates, caste certificates for claiming reservations, etc.
8. Get a printout of the duly filled DBT BET 2025 application form.

DBT BET Application Fee 2025

The candidates interested in the Research Fellowship will have to pay an application fee while filling out the online DBT BET 2025 application forms. Please note that this fee is non-refundable and non-transferable, so make sure you are eligible before applying.

DBT BET Exam 2025 Eligibility Criteria

The candidates need to fulfil the minimum eligibility criteria to apply online for the DBT BET 2025. The minimum eligibility criteria regarding academic qualification, marks, age limit, and nationality are given below:

Educational Qualification

The candidates pursuing any of the Masters degrees can also apply but they must have their final certificates before the time of final selection.

• The candidates must have both a Bachelors (B.E./ B.Tech./M.B.B.S) degree and
• Masters (M.Sc./ M.Tech./ M.VSc./M. Pharm./ Integrated M.Sc./ M.Tech.)
• The degree can be in any discipline of Biotechnology, Life Sciences such as Biomedical, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Botany, Chemistry, Computational Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Zoology or any other allied areas of Biology/Life-Sciences.

Age Limit (as of 28/03/2025)

The candidates must not be more than 28 years of age on the cutoff date.

Nationality

The candidate willing to apply for DBT JRF should be a bona fide citizen and resident of India.

DBT BET Exam Pattern 2025

The medium of examination will be English only and will comprise multiple-choice questions in 2 sections. Total marks for 200 questions will be 300, and the candidates must attempt 100 questions from both sections. There will be a negative marking of 1 mark for every incorrect answer. The timing of the examination will be from 10:00 am to 01:00 pm

Minimum Qualifying Marks

To pass the DBT JRF 2025 exam, the candidates need to get the minimum qualifying marks that are given below for separate categories. The marks should either be in percentage or in form of equivalent grades.

DBT BET JRF Salary Structure 2025

After the candidates are enrolled in Ph. D. programme at a university, they shall be given a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of Rs. 37000/- per month for two years from the date of joining. On completion of 3 years, they will be designated as Senior Research Fellows (SRF) and will get a fellowship of Rs. 42000/- per month for the remaining duration.
