Assam Rifles Eligibility Criteria 2026
Candidates must check the eligibility conditions of the recruitment in terms of educational qualification, age limit, and special conditions for dependents of Assam Rifles Personnel. Candidates must meet all the eligibility requirements to be considered for the recruitment process.
Educational Qualification
- Candidates applying for Rifleman/Riflewoman GD must have completed Class 10th.
- For the Warrant Officer Cipher post, candidates must have passed Class 12th. Along with this, they must also have done a 2-year ITI certificate in Radio & Television/Electronics, or hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics/Information Technology.
- Havildar Clerk posts require candidates to have completed Class 12th. They must also have knowledge of computers or have typing skills (English 35 wpm / Hindi 30 wpm).
- Candidates who want to apply for any of the trade posts, such as Rifleman EFS, Lineman, Armourer, Recovery Vehicle Mechanic, EMV, Metalsmith, Mason, Store Keeper Tech, Vehicle Mechanic, Engineer Equipment Mechanic, must have completed Class 10th and ITI / Diploma / Industrial certificate in the respective trade from a recognized institution.
Age Limit (as on 1st January 2026)
Candidates must be above the age of 18 years. The age limit varies with the posts, which candidates can see from the table given below:

In the notification, the Assam Rifles has given the initial rank to which selected candidates will be appointed for the Trade posts. For the post of Cipher (Male only), the initial rank is Warrant Officer. For all other trade posts, the initial rank is Rifleman.
Special Conditions
- Under this condition, only one dependent family member of the Assam Rifles Personnel may apply for the recruitment. This includes dependents of combatant AR personnel who were killed in action/CI operations, died while in service (including death by suicide), or were declared medically unfit, under Para 26 of AR rules (2010).
- It also covers dependents of permanent civil employees of the Assam Rifles who died during the service period or were retired on medical grounds under the given rules.
- Along with this, dependents of missing service personnel are also eligible for the recruitment. But they must ensure that two years have elapsed from the date of disappearance. They must submit the required documents for the eligibility, which include the FIR copy, the police investigation/closure report, the Court order declaring the missing person, and the acceptance of an authority regarding the case.
- Under the dependent category, the eligible family members include spouse, son, daughter, or legally adopted children of Assam Rifles personnel. In case of unmarried personnel, a dependent brother or sister is also eligible, provided the personnel had died during service or was retired for a medical condition.

Steps to Apply for Assam Rifles Recruitment 2026
Candidates must fill out the application form with their personal, academic qualifications, and family details, attach self-attested copies, and send it to the recruitment branch of Assam Rifles. Candidates must follow the steps given below to complete the application process:
- Candidates must first download the application form from the official website www.assamrifles.gov.in.
- Enter your personal information and educational qualifications, which include trade/technical qualifications.
- Then, candidates must attach the self-attested documents of educational certificates (Class 10th certificate), domicile certificate, category certificate (if required), diploma/Technical/ITI certificate (as per trade requirements), photo ID proof (include only one xerox copy of Aadhaar, PAN, Voter ID, or Driving License), proof of relation with Assam Rifle Personnel, and relevant certificates which proves the death/discharge/missing status of the Assam Rifles personnel.

Assam Rifles Selection Process 2026
The selection process for the Assam Rifles is covered through multiple stages. It begins with a recruitment rally, during which candidates undergo PET/PST, a written exam, a skill or trade test, and then a medical exam.
- PST & PET: In the Physical Standard Test (PST), candidates’ physical measurements are checked in terms of height, weight, and chest measurement (male only). While in the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), candidates have to cover a certain distance by running within a specified time limit.
- Written Exam: Candidates who are applying under the Compassionate Ground Appointment scheme are exempted from the written test.
- Skill/Trade Test: Candidates who have opted for trade or technical posts must appear for the skill test. Candidates will be assessed on the basis of Pass or Fail. Candidates appearing for General Duty posts are not required to appear for the test.
- Document Verification: Candidates will be required to appear before the office of the Director General of Assam Rifles, Shillong, to verify the original documents. In case of any mismatch, candidates will lose their candidature.
- Medical Examination: Candidates who qualify for the DV will be called to undergo the medical exam, such as knock knees, flat feet, varicose veins, or squint in the eyes, etc. This ensures that only medically fit candidates get the final appointment.
Assam Rifles PET PST Details 2026
Candidates who have successfully applied for the recruitment will be called for the Physical Test. This test has two parts: the Physical Standard Test (PST) and the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). In PST, candidates are evaluated based on the physical measurements set by the Assam Rifles. While in PET, the candidate’s endurance is checked through running.

Assam Rifles will conduct an offline written examination in an objective-type format. The exam has 4 sections and carries a total of 100 marks. Candidates need to finish their exam in a duration of 2 hours. Each question carries 1 mark, and there is no negative marking.

Assam Rifles Salary 2026
Candidates who are selected through this recruitment will receive a monthly salary as per the 7th Pay Commission. As this recruitment includes both technical and non-technical positions, the salary will vary. The basic pay starts at Rs. 21,700, and the monthly in-hand salary ranges between Rs. 18,000 and Rs. 70,000 or more. Along with a stable salary, selected candidates are also eligible for DA, hardship allowance, risk allowance, and other service-related benefits as per Assam Rifles rules.
