SSC JE Eligibility Criteria 2026: Education Qualification, Age Limit and Work Experience

Candidates appearing for the SSC JE exam are required to meet the eligibility criteria prescribed by the authority for various posts. Candidates who have secured a diploma/degrees in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, and are aged between 30/32 years, are eligible to apply for the SSC JE posts online.

Age Limit (as on 01/08/2026)

SSC has set certain age limits for the candidates to appear for the SSC JE Exam. Candidates need proper age proof for applying; false or misleading information will lead to disqualification. The age limit is up to 32 years for JE (E) and JE (C) of the Central Public Works Department. For the rest of the organisation and the position of JE, the age limit is up to 30 years. Age Relaxation

In addition, individuals who fall under specific groups like SC/ST, OBC, etc. are granted exceptional age relaxations beyond the upper age limit by the exam-holding authority. The age relaxations for each category of people are shown in the table below.

Nationality

The candidate must have the required nationality to be eligible for the SSC JE Exam 2026. They must provide the document which provides proof of nationality. Candidates must come from one of the following nationalities to take the exam.

  • a resident of India, or
  • a subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan or
  • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam to permanently set in India.

Education Qualification

Candidates need specific education qualifications to apply for the SSC JE Exam 2026. The education requirement of the applicant varies from organisation to position. Candidates will have to provide the original certificates at the time of document verification. The degrees should be certified by a recognised university.

The programmes in engineering, medicine, dental, nursing, pharmacy, architecture and physiotherapy etc. are not permitted to be offered under Open and Distance Learning mode. Only B.Tech. degree/ diploma in Engineering awarded by IGNOU to the students, who were enrolled up to academic year 2009-10, shall be treated as valid, wherever applicable.
