How Normalisation Works in UGC NET Exam?
- Scores are calculated using percentile scores (not raw scores)
- The highest score in each shift is taken as the benchmark
- All other scores are adjusted proportionally
- Formula Used: Percentile Score = (Number of candidates who scored equal to or below your score ÷ Total candidates in that shift) × 100
Tie-Breaking Criteria for UGC NET Merit Ranking
When two or more candidates achieve the same percentile score, NTA applies a sequential three-step tie-breaker to determine the merit position
- Paper 2 Marks – Higher marks achieved in the domain-specific Subject Paper (Paper 2) take priority
- Paper 1 Marks – If the tie persists, higher marks in the General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude (Paper 1) determine the higher rank
- Age Criteria – If both paper scores are identical, the candidate older in age receives the higher merit ranking.
