BARC Scientist Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

The educational qualifications for various disciplines have been detailed below.

For Engineering Disciplines (OCES Screening discipline codes 21-28):

Candidates need a B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. (Engineering)/5-year integrated M.Tech. in specified fields. A minimum of 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree is essential. Valid GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 scores are required for GATE-based screening.

For Science Disciplines:

  • Physics (PH 41): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in Physics or B.E./B.Tech./Integrated M.Tech. in Engineering Physics. Minimum 60% aggregate marks in the qualifying degree. A GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Physics or Engineering Science is needed.
  • Chemistry (CY 42): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in Chemistry. Minimum 60% aggregate marks in M.Sc. and B.Sc. A GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Chemistry is required.
  • Biosciences (BS 43): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in various bioscience fields, M.Tech. in Food Science and Technology, or B.E./B.Tech. in Food Technology. Minimum 60% aggregate marks. A GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Life Sciences or Biotechnology is essential.
  • Geology (GE 45): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc., or Equivalent M.Tech. in Geology and Applied Geology. A GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Geology and Geophysics is needed.
  • Geophysics (GP 46): M.Sc./Integrated M.Sc. in Geophysics. A GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 score in Geology and Geophysics is required.

BARC Scientist Recruitment 2026 Application Fee

A non-refundable Application Fee of Rs 500/-is to be paid by the male applicants belonging to General and OBC categories before submitting their application forms. Women candidates, transgender candidates, candidates belonging to the SC/ST category, Dependents of Defence Personnel Killed in Action (DODPKIA) and physically challenged candidates are exempted from payment of the application fee.

How to Apply for BARC Scientist Recruitment 2026?

Follow these steps to complete the BARC Scientist application process:

  1. Visit www.barcocesexam.in and click the “Apply Online” link.
  2. Register with a valid email ID and mobile number to get a Portal Registration Number.
  3. Log in, fill in personal/academic details, select one discipline, and complete E-KYC using Aadhaar.
  4. Upload scanned photo, signature, and documents like age proof, educational certificates, and category certificate (if applicable).
  5. Pay the non-refundable fee of Rs. 500 (exempt for SC/ST/PwD/women).

BARC Scientist Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

The BARC Scientist selection is based on shortlisting candidates through either an online Computer-Based Test (CBT) or valid GATE scores. The screening test focuses on assessing the candidate’s technical knowledge in their selected discipline. Only those who qualify in the screening stage are invited for the interview. The final selection of BARC Scientists is based entirely on interview performance.

The OCES/DGFS-2026 selection process is carried out in two main stages, as explained below:

  1. Screening of Candidates: Candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in either the Online Screening Examination or through GATE scores.
    (i) Online Screening Examination: This is a CBT conducted at multiple examination centres across India. The screening exam is scheduled to take place on 14 and 15 March 2026.
    ii) GATE Score: Candidates holding valid GATE-2024, GATE-2025, or GATE-2026 scores are eligible for screening through GATE. Applicants can apply using both screening modes to increase their chances of being shortlisted.
  2. Interview: Candidates shortlisted from the screening stage will be called for the selection interview, which will be held from 12 May 2026 to 12 June 2026. The interviews will be conducted in Mumbai or Hyderabad, depending on the candidate’s discipline. The final appointment is subject to fulfilling the prescribed medical fitness requirements.

BARC Scientist Recruitment 2026 Salary Structure

Candidates selected as Scientific Officer (Group-A) in BARC are appointed under Pay Level 10 of the 7th Pay Commission. The basic pay starts at Rs. 56,100 per month, and the total monthly salary can go up to approximately Rs. 1,35,000 in metro cities after including allowances. During the OCES/DGFS training period, candidates receive a stipend of Rs. 74,000 per month. Along with salary, officers are entitled to various allowances, medical facilities, and excellent career growth opportunities.
