In this election, West Bengal (WB) has witnessed one of the most historic political transformations with the victory of the BJP, winning 207 seats. On 9th May 2026, Suvendu Adhikari took the oath as the 9th Chief Minister of West Bengal and the first-ever Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at the iconic Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Nabin, and Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states across India appeared at the ceremony. Governor R.N. Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to Adhikari and the newly inducted ministers.

The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member Assembly, ending the Trinamool Congress’s 15-year rule in the state. West Bengal New Chief Minister: Suvendu Adhikari
Suvendu Adhikari (born 15 December 1970 in Karkuli, Purba Medinipur) is the 9th Chief Minister of West Bengal and the first from the BJP. He is also the first Chief Minister from Bengal’s rural district belt in 55 years, the last being Ajoy Mukherjee in 1971.
He hails from one of Bengal’s most powerful political families; his father, Sisir Adhikari, served as a Member of Parliament from Kanthi and as a Union Minister of State. Adhikari holds a Master of Arts degree from Rabindra Bharati University (2011).
