The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released an official notification for the University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test for the June cycle. This examination is conducted twice a year and it is a very competitive examination. NTA has started accepting online registrations from 20th April 2024 for the first cycle at https://ugcnet.ntaonline.in/as specified in UGC NET Notification 2024. What is UGC NET 2024?

UGC NET stands for University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test, a qualifying test to evaluate an Indian candidate’s eligibility for admission to Indian universities and colleges for Ph.D., award of Junior Research Fellowship and appointment as Assistant Professor, and appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D. Every year NTA conducts this examination in June & December, for this year June cycle notification is released. UGC NET examination will be conducted for a total of 83 subjects, syllabus for each subject will be different from others and will be held in online mode.

UGC NET Notification 2024- Important Dates

As UGC NET Notification 2024 has been released, candidates who wish to appear for this examination must be aware of the dates for some important events for this examination. The UGC NET June cycle examination will be conducted from 18th June 2024, candidates will be able to download their admit card and city intimation slip a few days before exam date.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria

Those who wish to appear for June cycle of the UGC NET 2024 examination must be aware that there are some eligibility norms which are specified by the National Testing Agency and every candidate who falls within the prescribed eligibility criteria is eligible to apply for this exam. NTA evaluates a candidate’s eligibility based on age limit and educational qualification.

UGC NET Age Limit (As on 01.06.2024)

To apply for UGC NET examination, candidates are required to fulfill a certain age limit as specified in UGC NET Notification 2024. Age limit criteria for JRf, Assistant Professorship & PhD are provided below. Candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, OBC-NCL, and PwD get 5 years of age relaxations in the upper age limit for JRF.

• For those applying for NTA NET Junior Research Fellowships, they should not be more than 30 years of age as on 1st June 2024. 
• For Assistant Professorships and admission to PhD, there is no age limit specified by NTA.

UGC NET Educational Qualification

Candidates who belong to reserved categories will get a 5% relaxation in necessary educational requirements for the UGC NET June 2024 examination. Candidates who have done their masters from UGC-recognized universities or are in final semester are eligible for this national-level examination. Some other educational qualifications that are required as prescribed by NTA are specified below.

• Candidates must be graduates of UGC-recognized universities or institutions with a master’s degree or its equivalent with 55% mark.
• Candidates may apply for the UGC NET June 2024 only for Junior Research Fellowship & for Ph.D admission and not for Assistant Professor if they have completed a 4-year, 8-semester bachelor’s degree program with at least 75% overall marks or an equivalent grade.
• Those in their last semester of a four-year/eight-semester bachelor’s degree program are eligible to apply for this exam as well.
• Candidates who are in their last semester of a post-graduate degree are also eligible to apply.
• Passing the qualifying exam in Social Science, Computer Science & Applications, Electronic Science, and Humanities (including languages) is necessary.
• Holders of a Ph.D. receive a 5% relaxation in total marks. These candidates need to have passed their Master’s degree exam, which is completed on 19th September 1991.

UGC NET Application Fees

While filling UGC NET Application Form 2024 for the June cycle exam, candidates will have to pay prescribed category-wise application fees. Those who belong to general or unreserved category have to pay Rs. 1150/- for UGC NET 2024 examination and for SC/ST/PwD or third general application fee is Rs. 325/-. Candidates must note that they will only be able to pay application fees till 11th & 12th May 2024, after this specified date payment window will be closed.

• General-EWS/OBC-NCL:- Rs. 600/-
• General/Unreserved:- Rs. 1150/-
• ST/SC/PwD & Third Gender:- Rs. 325/-
