The PSPCL Assistant Lineman Exam Pattern clarifies how many questions from which particular section will be asked. So, the candidates are expected to be well-versed in the exam pattern. There are two parts in the examination, Part 1 includes Knowledge of the Punjabi Language (qualifying), which carries 50 marks, and Part 2 comprises various subjects, which are as follows-

• The first section focuses on the Wiremen/Electrician Trade, with 50 questions worth 50 marks. This segment assesses candidates’ technical knowledge related to electrical systems, tools, and procedures, which are crucial for an ALM role.
• The second section tests Knowledge of Punjabi Grammar, with 20 questions for 20 marks. This part ensures that candidates are proficient in understanding and using the Punjabi language, as it is a vital skill for communication within the state.
• The third section is General Knowledge, consisting of 10 questions worth 10 marks. It checks candidates’ awareness of current affairs, history, geography, and other subjects that reflect general awareness.
• The fourth section, Reasoning, includes 10 questions for 10 marks. This assesses the candidates’ logical and analytical thinking abilities.
• Lastly, the Arithmetics section, with 10 questions for 10 marks, evaluates candidates’ numerical and mathematical skills.

Technical Part – ITI (Electrician Trade)

1. Occupational Safety & Health:

 Basic safety introduction, Personal Protection, Basic injury prevention, basic first aid, hazard identification and avoidance, safety signs for danger, Warning, caution & personal safety messages. Use of Fire extinguishers

2. Fundamental of Electricity:

Fundamental terms definition, units & effects of electric current. Types of Resistors. Different types of insulators, Voltage Grades-Low, Medium & High voltages Ohm’s Law- Simple Electrical circuits & simple numerical problems

3. Alternator Current:

Difference between Alternator Current (AC) & Direct Current (DC), Line & phase voltage, current & power in 3-phase circuits with balance & unbalanced load.

4. Earthing:

• Principle of different methods of earthing i.e. pipe, plate etc. importance of Earthing
• Basic knowledge of Ammeter, Voltmeter, ohm-meter, energy meter

5. Transformers:

•  Types of Transformers (Power & Distribution Transformer)
• General idea about overhead transmission, distribution (Low voltage, Medium Voltage & High Voltage)

6. Substation Equipment:

•  Basic knowledge of Switch gears like Circuit Breakers (CBs), Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCBs), Oil Circuit Breakers (OCB)
• Types of Underground cables

Knowledge of Punjabi Grammar

The candidates are expected to be well – versed with the Punjabi Grammar up to class 10th. As it will carry 20 marks that is 20% of the entire PSPCL ALM Syllabus.

General Knowledge

The candidates must have general knowledge about the state of Punjab. They need to know the current and most important affairs of Punjab. This section is 10% of the entire syllabus. Some of the important topics include:
