Factors Affecting OSSC CGL Cut Off Marks
- Number of Vacancies: A higher number of vacancies generally leads to more candidates being shortlisted, which may stabilise or lower the cut off.
- Number of Candidates Who Appeared: The more the number of candidates appearing in the exam, the higher the competition, and consequently the higher the cut off marks for each category.
- Difficulty Level of the Exam: If the question paper is relatively easier, more candidates score higher marks, pushing the cut off upward. A tougher paper tends to bring the cut off down across all categories.
- Category-wise Reservation Norms: OSSC follows state reservation guidelines. Each category (UR, SEBC, SC, ST, PwD, Ex-SM, SP) has a separate cut off, reflecting the different competition levels within each group.
- Gender-based Cut Off: OSSC releases separate cut off marks for male and female candidates within the same category. Female cut offs are typically lower than male cut offs, reflecting the gender-based relaxation in competition.
- Overall Candidate Performance: If most candidates perform exceptionally well in a particular year, the cut off naturally rises, even without a change in vacancies or difficulty level.
