AP Assistant Professor Eligibility Criteria 2026

Candidates must fulfil the required eligibility criteria in terms of educational qualification and age limit as discussed below.

Educational Qualification

Assistant Professor Master’s degree with at least 55% marks and UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/APSET/APSLET, or Ph.D. as per UGC Regulations 2009/2016. A foreign Ph.D. from a top 500-ranked university is also accepted.
Associate Professor Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, Master’s degree with at least 55% marks, minimum 8 years teaching/research experience, 7 publications, and a research score of 75.
Professor Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, strong published research work, minimum 10 research publications, research score of 120, and 10 years of teaching/research experience.
Lecturer (RGUKT) Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a relevant discipline with First Class or equivalent. Must satisfy AICTE/UGC norms. NET/Ph.D. may apply where required.
Assistant Librarian/Academic Non-Vacation Posts Master’s degree in Library Science/Information Science/Documentation Science with 55% marks and NET/SLET/SET or Ph.D. as per UGC norms. Knowledge of library automation and digital systems may be required.

AP Assistant Professor Selection Process 2026

The selection procedure differs based on the post being applied for.

For Assistant Professor Stage 1 – Eligibility Screening: Each university’s departmental committee reviews applications to check basic eligibility.
Stage 2 – Written Test (CBT by APPSC): A Computer-Based Test of 150 multiple-choice questions is conducted. Each correct answer carries 3 marks, and there is a penalty of 1 mark for each wrong answer. The test duration is 180 minutes (3 hours).
Stage 3 – Minimum Qualifying Marks: Candidates must score at least 40% (General), 35% (BC), or 30% (SC/ST/PwBD) to qualify.
Stage 4 – 12:1 Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted in a 12:1 ratio based on their written test scores. Candidates with prior contractual service at state universities get an additional 0.5% per completed year (up to 10 years).
Stage 5 – Academic Score Evaluation (100 Points): A Screening-cum-Evaluation Committee (SEC) assesses candidates based on graduation marks, post-graduation marks, Ph.D., NET/JRF, publications, teaching experience, and academic awards.
Stage 6 – 4:1 Shortlisting for Interview: Based on the academic score, candidates are further shortlisted in a 4:1 ratio for the interview round.
Stage 7 – Interview (100 Marks): The interview lasts 45 minutes and is evaluated on four components:
For Associate Professor and Professor Stage 1 – Eligibility Screening: Applications are reviewed by departmental committees. No written test is conducted for these posts.
Stage 2 – Research & Academic Score Evaluation: The SEC evaluates candidates on the basis of publications, books, funded projects, patents, MOOCs, Ph.D. guidance, and invited lectures, as per the scoring formula in GO Ms. No. 14, dated 13.02.2019.
Stage 3 – 4:1 Shortlisting: Candidates are called for interview in a 4:1 ratio based on their validated research/academic scores.
Stage 4 – Interview (100 Marks): Same four-component format as described above.
Final Selection: The final selection for these posts is based on a 50% weightage to academic/research score and 50% weightage to interview performance.

AP Assistant Professor Salary 2026

Faculty members selected through this recruitment will receive pay as per the UGC Pay Scale revised under GO Ms. No. 14, dated 13.02.2019. The pay structure follows the Academic Level system with 3% annual increments.
