GATE Registration 2027 Starts
Those who wish to get admission to postgraduate engineering (ME/M.Tech) in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other top institutes and universities in India are supposed to fill out the online GATE Application Form through the official website https://gate2027.iitm.ac.in/. IIT Madras has advised applicants to create their DigiLocker accounts or ensure that their existing accounts are updated before beginning the GATE registration process.

Candidates have to visit the official website of IIT Madras at www.gate2027.iitm.ac.in to fill the GATE registration form. Candidates need their Email ID and mobile number as mandatory details to register for the new GATE exam session. Make sure to complete the GATE application form submission before the deadline i.e., 27th September 2026.
Changes Introduced in GATE Registration 2027
IIT Madras has made two new changes in the application process of GATE this year. As per the details available in the information brochure, the changes are
- Mandatory Digilocker Verification in GATE 2027 Registration
- Live Photo Capture/Facial Recognition in GATE Application Form 2027
- Robotics and Automation (RA) paper added to the list of 30 test papers
- Revisions to the syllabus, XE/XH/XL sectional paper codes, and updates related to the Biotechnology (BT) paper and two-paper combinations
GATE 2027 Registration Linked with DigiLocker
- Candidates are required to use their DigiLocker accounts to apply.
- Information such as the candidate’s name, date of birth, mobile number, email address, profile photo, address, and verified identity card number will be automatically pulled from DigiLocker.
- Candidates should ensure the accuracy of the information put in their DigiLocker to avoid inconveniences while applying.
Steps to Apply for GATE 2027 Exam
Candidates can follow the below step-by-step process to apply for the GATE Exam 2026.
Step 1- Register on GOAPS
- First, candidates have to sign up with a valid email ID and mobile number to get an Enrolment ID and password.
Step 2- Complete DigiLocker verification
- It is mandatory for all Indian nationals to provide a verified DigiLocker account.
- Personal details like name, date of birth, and address can be auto-populated from DigiLocker, so candidates are advised to update the same carefully before submitting any data.
Step 3 – Fill personal and academic details
- Category, Gender, Communication Address, Qualifying Degree, Branch, College Name, Year of Passing
Step 4 – Choose your GATE papers
- Candidates can choose to appear in one paper or two papers from the approved two-paper list.
- The choice of papers cannot be changed once submitted.
Step 5 – Select your exam cities
- Candidates need to select three exam cities of their choice. First two cities must be in the same zone while the third city can be from any zone.
Step 6 – Upload the required documents
- Photograph, signature, and other documents in the prescribed format and size.
Step 7 – Payment of fee and submission of the application
After successful payment of the application fee, you will be able to download a copy of your submitted application for future reference.

Photo Upload Guidelines
- The photograph must be in colour with a white background in 3.5 cm width x 4.5 cm height dimensions.
- The size of the photo must be greater than 5 KB and less than 600 KB in JPEG/JPG format.
- The acceptable pixel resolution is minimum 200 x 260 and maximum 530 x 690 with maximum aspect ratio 0.89.
Signature Upload Guidelines
- The signature must be in white background with black/blue ink.
- The signature must be in JPEG/JPG format with dimensions between 250 x 80 and 580 x 180.
- The maximum allowable size is 300 KB and the minimum is 3 KB.
Category Certificate, Photo ID and Education Documents Guidelines
All these certificates have to be in PDF format with a maximum allowable file size of 3 MB.
GATE 2027 Application Fee
All candidates applying for GATE 2027 will have to pay a fees to complete the application process.
- Unreserved candidates – Rs 2,000/-
- Female candidates and those belonging to the SC, ST and PwD categories – Rs 1,000/-
