How are marks normalised in Delhi Police Constable Exam?
The CBE for Constable (Executive) Male and Female in the Delhi Police Examination, 2025, was conducted in multiple shifts (18th December 2025 to 6th January 2026), and therefore, the Staff Selection Commission has used its normalisation formula to convert the raw marks to normalised marks before preparing the result and scorecards. This means that candidates appearing for a relatively tougher shift are not at a disadvantage when compared to candidates appearing for an easier shift.
Step 1- Convert marks to a percentile (per shift)
For every candidate, SSC checks: “Out of everyone in my shift, what percentage of people scored equal to or less than me?” That percentage is your percentile. This is calculated separately for each shift — so a 90th percentile in Shift 1 and a 90th percentile in Shift 2 mean “did better than 90% of people in your own shift,” regardless of how hard that shift’s paper was.
Step 2- Match percentiles across shifts
Now here’s the clever part. Once everyone has a percentile, SSC lines up all candidates from all shifts together and sorts them by percentile (highest to lowest). If a candidate from Shift 1 and a candidate from Shift 2 happen to land on the exact same percentile, their raw marks are treated as “equivalent” — even though the actual numbers may differ.
Step 3- Calculate the final normalized score
For each percentile, you now have an equivalent raw score from every shift (thanks to Step 2). SSC just averages these together — that average becomes the candidate’s final normalized score, which is what’s actually used for merit lists, cutoffs, and results.
