Gujarat High Court Civil Judge Recruitment 2026 Overview

The High Court of Gujarat will conduct the recruitment process in accordance with the directions issued by the Hon’ble Supreme Court in the case of Malik Mazhar Sultan (3) and another Vs. Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission reported in (2008) 17 SCC 703, under the Gujarat State Judicial Service Rules, 2005. Gujarat High Court Civil Judge Vacancy 2026

A total of 237 vacancies have been notified through a short notice for the post of Civil Judge under the Gujarat Judicial Services (GJS). This post is a gazetted Gujarat government judicial cadre service. GHC Civil Judge Eligibility Criteria 2026

Before applying for the recruitment, candidates must ensure that they meet all the required eligibility conditions, in terms of educational qualification, age limit, and language proficiency. Educational Qualification

• Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognised university.
• Candidates must have proficiency in the Gujarati language in terms of reading, writing, and speaking. However, those candidates who have studied Gujarati in Secondary and Higher Secondary are not required to appear for the language proficiency test.
• Applicants should be practicing as an advocate in Civil and/or Criminal Courts.
• Candidates must also have passed the All India Bar Examination (AIBE).
• Candidates should have a valid certificate of basic knowledge in Computer Applications from a recognized institute.

Age Limit

The minimum age above which candidates are eligible to apply for the recruitment is 21 years. The maximum age allowed for candidates from the general category is 35 years. Candidates from reserved categories (SC, ST, EWS, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen) must be below the maximum age of 38 years. The upper age limit of employees working in the Court or allied departments is 40 years.

GHC Civil Judge Selection Process 2026

The selection process for the Gujarat High Court Civil Judge recruitment is covered in three steps to ensure qualified candidates are appointed to the judicial services. The exam pattern for the GHC Civil Judge includes Prelims, Mains, and Interview. The recruitment examination will check the candidate’s legal knowledge, language proficiency, and overall suitability for the post. Candidates must qualify for each stage to get the final appointment.

Gujarat Judiciary Civil Judge Prelims Exam Pattern 2026

The Preliminary exam is an elimination test that contains only objective-type questions. There are two papers in Stage 1. The Paper 1 is divided into three parts. Part A is for Criminal Laws, Part B is for Civil Laws, and Part C is for General Knowledge, English Language, Test of Reasoning, Numerical & Mental Ability, and Basics of Computer
Applications. Paper 2 is for the Test of Gujarati Language. The Prelims exam is qualifying in nature, so marks are not counted for the final merit.

Paper 1

• The exam will be conducted on an OMR sheet.
• The maximum marks of the Prelims are 100.
• The duration of the exam is 2 hours.
• Each question will carry 1 mark.
• For every wrong answer, 0.33 marks will be deducted
• The language of the question paper will be in English only.

Paper 2

• The Gujarati Language exam is of 50 marks.
• The duration of the exam is 1 hour and 30 minutes.
• Candidates have to score 40% or more marks to qualify for the Mains exam.

Gujarat Judiciary Civil Judge Mains Exam Pattern 2026

The Mains exam is descriptive in nature and has two papers. Paper 1 is for the Criminal Law subject, and Paper 2 is for the Civil Law subject.

• Each of these papers carries 100 marks.
• Candidates will get 3 hours for each paper.
• The language of both papers is English.
• Answers to the questions can be written in either English or Gujarati

GHC Civil Judges Mains Exam Minimum Qualifying Marks 2026

To qualify for the Interview or Viva-Voice stage, candidates have to secure a minimum qualifying mark in the Mains exam. The qualifying criteria will vary with the category. Besides, candidates also have to score a minimum of 40% marks in each paper of the Mains exam.

Gujarat Judiciary Civil Judge Salary 2026

Candidates selected through this recruitment will get a salary as per the 7th Pay Commission guidelines. The said post falls under Level J-1, which is an entry-level judicial position. The salary structure includes basic pay and several allowances, such as DA, HRA, TA, medical benefits, and other perks related to Judicial Services. The salary of a Civil Judge ranges from Rs. 77,840 to Rs. 1,36,520.
