The Preliminary exam consists of 120 MCQs from English Language & Comprehension, General Awareness/Knowledge Current Affairs/Events, and General Intelligence, Reasoning Ability & Numerical/Arithmetic Ability to be completed in 120 minutes.

Note: Candidates need to meet the minimum qualifying marks to proceed to the next stage. General category candidates must score 60 marks (50% of 120 Marks), the candidates from the reserved category must score 54 marks (45% of 120 Marks), and applicants from the PwBD category should score 54 marks or 45%.
