Q4. When an electron in an atom moves from the ground state to a higher energy level what happens to its kinetic and potential energies?

Question
Options Kinetic energy Potential energy
A increases increases
B increases Decreases
C Decreases increases
D Decreases Decreases

Ans.

Answer
C Decreases increases

Q5. At what rate does the electric field change between the plates of a square capacitor of side 5 cm, if the plates are spaced 1.2 mm apart and the voltage across them is changing at a rate of 60 V/s?

A. 7.2 x 10-2 Vm-1S-1

For Questions 6 to 9, two statements are given –one labelled Assertion (A) and the other labelled Reason (R). Select the correct answer to these questions from the options given below.
A. Assertion and Reason are true and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.
B. Assertion and Reason are true but Reason is NOT the correct explanation of Assertion.
C. Assertion is true but Reason is false.
D. Both Assertion and Reason are false.

Q6. Assertion (A): The work function of a given material increases with an increase in the frequency of the incident radiation
Reason (R): As per Einstein’s photoelectric equation hν = φ + KE, work function φ is directly proportional to the frequency ν of the incident radiation

Q7. Assertion (A): The conductivity of intrinsic semiconductors increases with an increase in temperature.
Reason (R): Increase in temperature decreases the average time between collisions of electrons.

Q8. Assertion (A): If the focal length of two convex lenses is the same, the lens with the larger diameter will produce brighter images.
Reason (R): Convex lenses with larger diameters are able to focus light better.
