CBSE Class 10th Board Exams to be Held Twice a Year :-The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approved the norms for the conduct of the Class 10th board exams twice in a year. The change has been made as the acceptance of the suggestion made in the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The changes have been made with the objective of providing students with flexibility and opportunities to improve their performance while reducing the additional pressure of the board exams. It has been announced that it is mandatory for all the students to appear for the 1st phase of final board exams, which are annually conducted in February month.
Board officials said that the 2nd phase of the final board exams will be scheduled in May with the objective of providing students an additional opportunity to improve their grades and performance.
CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj announced the approval and said, “The first phase will be conducted in February and second in May. The results for the two phases will be announced in April and June, respectively.”
“It will be mandatory (for students) to appear for the first phase while the second phase will be optional. Students will be allowed to improve their performance in any three subjects out of science, mathematics, social science and languages,” he added.
The internal assessment of the students will only be condcuted one time as per the schedule. All the students belonging to winter-bound schools will have the option to opt for any of the two phases to appear for the exam as per their comfort levels.
In February, the board released a draft sharing the proposed norms for the dual conduct of CBSE Board Exam, after which they invited reviews and suggestions from all the stakeholders and representatives. Now, after going through all the suggestions, the board has finally released the upgraded norms announcing the dual conduction of CBSE Class 10th Board Exams.
NEP 2020
During the release of NEP 2020 many suggestions were made suggesting improvements in the current education systems.
It mentioned that the existing system of Board and entrance examinations shall be reformed to eliminate the need for undertaking coaching classes. “To reverse these harmful effects of the current assessment system, Board exams will be redesigned to encourage holistic development; students will be able to choose many of the subjects in which they take Board exams, depending on their individualised interests”.
