NEET UG, MBBS seats in India

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has shared exciting updates about medical college seats in India for the 2024-25 academic year. There are now 118,190 MBBS seats available in 780 medical colleges across the country. Karnataka has the highest number of MBBS seats, while Uttar Pradesh has the most medical colleges.

The NMC has also released temporary seat details for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses, including specialist and super-specialist programs. This information is available on the NMC website and is valid till March 31, 2025. Medical colleges have been asked to review their seat numbers and report any mistakes within 15 days to keep the data accurate and up to date.

How Many Private and Government NEET Seats are there in India?

India has a wide gap in the number of MBBS seats and medical colleges across different states, as per the National Medical Commission (NMC). Karnataka tops the list with 12,545 MBBS seats, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 12,475. Tamil Nadu has 12,050, Maharashtra 11,846, and Telangana 9,040. States like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and West Bengal also offer many seats. Others, such as Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Odisha, have fewer.

When it comes to the number of colleges, Uttar Pradesh has the most with 86, followed by Maharashtra with 80, and Tamil Nadu with 77. Telangana, Gujarat, and others have between 30 and 65 colleges. Smaller states like Sikkim, Goa, and Chandigarh have only one medical college each, highlighting the unequal distribution of medical education in the country.
