Medical Colleges to get 10,000 New Seats, says Finance Minister

Today, Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitaraman announced the Union Budget 2025. The Union Budget had numerous big announcements for every section of the group along with the students. For the students preparing for the NEET Exam or are dreaming of a career in the medical field the Finance Minister has announced an increase of 10,000 media seats in numerous medical colleges around the country.

During her speech, the finance minister mentioned that “As many as 10,000 additional seats will be added to medical colleges across India next year, with the aim to add a total of 75,000 over the next five years”. Our government has added almost 1.1 lakh UG and PG medical education seats in ten years, an increase of 130 percent, she mentioned.

The minister also shared positive news for the engineering aspirants. She announced that the total number of students in the Indian Institute of Technology had increased by over 100 percent in 10 years. The government is committed to building infrastructure for the five IITs set up after 2014 for 6,500 more students.

As part of the objective of upskilling and higher education, the minister mentioned that a total of five National Centres of Excellence would be set up with global expertise and partnerships to equip youth with the skills needed for “Make in India, Make for the World”. She announced a budget of INR 500 crores for Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for Education.
