RRB Section Controller Selection Process 2026

The selection process has three stages. Candidates must clear each stage to advance to the next.:

CBT (Computer Based Test) → CBAT (Computer Based Aptitude Test) → Document Verification

• CBAT: This is the first stage of the exam and consists of an objective-type computer-based test
• CBAT: Computer-Based Aptitude Test
• Document Verification: After clearing the CBAT examination, candidates have to present their original documents based on their qualifications.

Only candidates who qualify in CBAT are considered for the final merit list. The merit list is prepared with 70% weightage from CBT and 30% weightage from CBAT. Failing even one CBAT battery leads to disqualification.

The exam pattern for computer-based tests is as follows.

• The examination will be conducted for 100 marks.
• The duration of the exam is 120 minutes (2 hours).
• ⅓ of the marks will be deducted for each incorrect attempt
• Minimum percentage of qualifying marks for eligibility in various categories: UR-40%, EWS-40%, OBC (Non creamy layer)-30%, SC-30%, ST-25%

• Questions and answer options are in English and Hindi only.
• Candidates must score a minimum T-score of 42 in each test battery to qualify.
• Failure in any single battery means disqualification from the Section Controller post.
• No negative marking in CBAT.
• No category-based relaxation in CBAT qualifying marks.

3. Section Controller Syllabus for Mental Reasoning (20 Marks)

This section checks your reasoning and logical thinking skills by asking a variety of question types. These include puzzles, coding-decoding, number and letter series etc.

• Analogy – Identifying the relationship between two items and applying it to another pair,
• Series Completion – Identifying the pattern in a sequence of numbers and predicting the
  next term,
• Coding-Decoding
• Ranking and Arrangement problems.

RRB Section Controller CBAT Syllabus 2026

The Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) is the 2nd stage of the selection process. Many candidates with high CBT scores fail to clear CBAT because they start preparing too late. Since CBAT carries 30% weightage in the final merit list, it can significantly affect your rank.

Important: CBAT is a qualifying-cum-merit test. You must pass every individual test battery (minimum T-score 42). There is no relaxation based on category. Failing even one battery = disqualification from the Section Controller post.
