No, SBI Apprentice is not a permanent job. It is a 1-year contractual apprenticeship engagement.
What is the SBI Apprenticeship Program?
The SBI Apprentice 2026 Program is a recruitment drive by the State Bank of India (SBI) to engage 7150 candidates as apprentices under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Selected candidates undergo a 1-year training program at SBI branches across India. The selected candidates will be trained on the job in order to get practical knowledge of banking, customer service experience, and soft skills at various SBI branches. The selected apprentices will be paid a fixed monthly stipend of Rs. 15,000 for one year of engagement.
SBI Apprentice 2026 Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria of any bank exam depend on educational qualification, age limit, experience, local language, etc. Detailed analysis of these factors is given below:
Educational Qualification (as on 01/04/2026)
Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university in India or any equivalent qualification recognised as such by the central government.
Age Limit (as on 01/04/2026)
Minimum 20 years and maximum 28 years. The maximum age indicated is for unreserved and EWS candidates. Candidates must have been born not later than 01.04.2006 and not earlier than 02.04.1998 (both days inclusive).
Age Relaxation
Relaxation in the upper age limit is applicable as per the Government of India guidelines for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates, as discussed below:

Points to know before applying online
• The candidate will have to apply for the vacancy in one state only. A candidate applying for the vacancy in one state will not be eligible to apply for the vacancy of any other state.
• Candidature of the applicant will be considered only against the vacancies in the state for which he/she has applied/opted. The merit list will be drawn state-wise and category-wise.
• Selected candidates will be posted in the circle of that state against whose vacancy they are selected.

SBI Apprentice 2026 Selection Process
Selection for engagement of SBI apprentices would be based on the basis following exams.

The total time duration for the SBI Apprentice Online test is 1 hour (60 minutes) for 100 marks. 100 questions will be asked in the Computer-Based Examination (CBE). SBI Apprentice Test A: Objective Test (Online)
Except for the test of general English, test questions for the written examination shall be set in 13 regional languages, viz., Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Manipuri, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu, in addition to English and Hindi.

Penalty for Wrong Answers: There will be a penalty for wrong answers marked in objective tests. For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, 1/4th of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty to arrive at a corrected score. If a question is left blank, i.e., if no answer is marked by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that question.
Test of Local Language
The candidates applying for vacancies in a particular state should be proficient (reading, writing, speaking and understanding) in the specified local language of that state as mentioned in the advertisement PDF. The test for knowledge of the specified local language will be conducted as a part of the selection process. It will be conducted after qualifying the online written examination.
Candidates who fail to qualify for this test will not be engaged as apprentices. Candidates who produce a 10th or 12th standard mark sheet/certificate evidencing having studied the specified opted local language will not be required to undergo the language test. Candidates will have to appear for the test of the specified opted local language at a centre (to be decided by the bank) of the state applied for, at his/her own expense.

Medical Examination
The engagement of selected apprentices is subject to their being declared medically fit as per the requirements of the bank.
The final selection will be subject to
a) Verification of eligibility for the post and information furnished in the online application
b) Qualifying in the test of the specified opted local language, where applicable, as detailed above.
c) Declared fit in the medical examination.

SBI Apprentice 2026 Salary Structure
The apprentices are eligible for an SBI Apprentice Salary of a fixed stipend of Rs. 15000/- per month for the engagement period of one year. . Apprentices are not eligible for standard employee allowances like Dearness Allowance (DA) or House Rent Allowance (HRA).
- Stipend: Rs. 15,000 per month
- In-Hand Pay: Rs. 15,000 (Typically, no major deductions or PF contributions are applied since it is a training engagement)

- Annual Compensation: Rs 1.8 Lakhs
