How to Efficiently Use RRB Group D PYQs to Score Good Marks?
As is already known, Previous Year Questions (PYQs) are the most trustworthy resource for qualifying the RRB Group D exam because they show the actual exam pattern, difficulty level, and frequently asked concepts. But the point is how you perfectly use them.
- Start with understanding the Exam Pattern via PYQs: as this help you understand what the Railway Recruitment Board actually asks—not just what books suggest.
- Identify High-Weightage Topics: Go through at least 5–10 years of PYQs and note down: Repeated topics in Maths (Percentage, Ratio, Simplification), Reasoning (Puzzles, Coding-Decoding), and GK (Current Affairs and Static GK).
- Solve PYQs Topic-Wise First: Don’t start with full papers immediately. Start Step-by-step: Pick one topic (e.g., Percentage), then Solve all PYQs from that topic and Understand patterns and shortcuts/
- Shift to Full-Length PYQ Practice: Once concepts are clear, solve complete papers in timed mode (90 minutes) to simulate real exam conditions. This improves Time management and Accuracy under pressure.
- Focus on Repeated Questions & Concepts: RRB exams often repeat: Concepts, Question formats, and sometimes even similar questions
RRB Group D Exam Structure & Marking Scheme
- The CBT will be of the Multiple-Choice Questions type.
- There will be 100 questions carrying 1 mark for each correct answer.
- The cumulative time duration for CBT is 90 minutes.
- A negative marking of ⅓ mark for each incorrect answer is also included.
- Subjects- Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, General Awareness & Current Affairs
- Your raw CBT score is converted to a normalised mark if the exam is conducted across multiple shifts, since difficulty can vary slightly shift to shift. RRB uses a standard percentile-based normalisation formula, so your final merit score may differ slightly from your raw marks — this is normal and applies equally to all candidates in a shift.
