Who is eligible for the IBPS Law Officer Exam?
Only those candidates who are in age between 20 and 30 years old and have completed a graduation in Law (Enrolled with the Bar Council) are eligible to apply online for the IBPS SO Exam for Law Officer posts.
Educational Qualification (as on 21/07/2026)
- Candidates must have completed a Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB) from a university/institution recognised by the Government of India.
- Candidates must be enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of India or a State Bar Council.
- Final-year students are not eligible; the qualifying degree must be completed and the result declared by the cut-off date mentioned in the notification
- Prior work experience as a legal practitioner is generally preferred by some banks, though it may not always be mandatory

What are the IBPS SO Law Officer Selection Stages?
The selection process comprises the following stages.
- IBPS Law Officer Prelims Exam - This is the 1st stage of the exam, which is qualifying in nature. Only those candidates who registered for the examination will be eligible to appear for the exam.
- IBPS Law Officer Mains Exam - Qualified candidates in the prelims exam will be shortlited for the mains exam. Conducted to evaluate professional knowledge in the exam.
- IBPS Law Officer Interview Round - Only Mains-qualified candidates are called for the interview (80:20). The Interview will be conducted for a total of 100 marks.
- Final Merit List - The final merit list is based on the Mains score + Interview score combined. The candidates on the final list are eventually the ones who are recruited and get training as IBPS Law Officers.
