The West Bengal College Service Commission (WBCSC) conducts the West Bengal State Eligibility Test (WB SET) annually to determine eligibility for Assistant Professor positions in colleges and universities within the state. Candidates who will be applying for the exam must know the WB SET Syllabus 2025 to know the subjects and topics they have to cover while preparing for the exam. WB SET Syllabus 2025

To begin with, the WB SET 2025 Preparation candidates must know the WB SET Syllabus 2025, as it provides a complete list of topics and subjects that will be covered in the examination. WB SET Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2025

The exam consists of two papers: Paper 1 assesses general teaching and research aptitude, while Paper 2 focuses on subject-specific knowledge. Paper 1 is common for all candidates, testing general teaching and research aptitude, and Paper 2 is Subject-specific, testing knowledge in the chosen subject. Candidates must meet minimum qualifying marks, with a relaxation for reserved categories.

WB SET Exam Pattern 2025

The WB SET Exam 2025 will consist of two papers. Both papers will consist of only objective-type questions and will be conducted on the same day in 2 shifts. 

• Paper 1 will consist of 50 objective-type compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks. The questions will be of a general nature, intended to assess the teaching, research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness of the candidate.
• Paper 2 will consist of 100 objective-type compulsory questions, each carrying 2 marks, which will be based on the subject selected by the candidate. The time duration for the exam will be 2 hours, and there will be no negative marking.

WB SET Paper 1 Syllabus 2025 (General Paper on Teaching & Research Aptitude)

The main objective is to assess the teaching and research capabilities of the candidates. The test aims at assessing the teaching and research aptitude as well. Candidates are expected to possess and exhibit cognitive abilities, which include comprehension, analysis, evaluation, understanding the structure of arguments, deductive and inductive reasoning.

Unit-I Teaching Aptitude 

• Teaching: Concept, Objectives, Levels of teaching (Memory, Understanding, and Reflective), Characteristics and basic requirements.
• Learner’s characteristics: Characteristics of adolescent and adult learners (Academic, Social, Emotional and Cognitive), Individual differences.
• Factors affecting teaching related to: Teacher, Learner, Support material, Instructional facilities, Learning environment and Institution.
• Methods of teaching in Institutions of higher learning: Teacher-centred vs. learner-centered methods; Offline vs. Online methods (Swayam, Swayamprabha, MOOCs etc.).
• Teaching Support System: Traditional, Modern and ICT based.
• Evaluation Systems: Elements and Types of evaluation, Evaluation in Choice Based Credit System in Higher education, Computer based testing, Innovations in evaluation systems.

Unit-II Research Aptitude

• Research: Meaning, Types, and Characteristics, Positivism and Postpositivist approach to research.

• A passage of text is given. Questions are asked about the passage to be answered.

Unit-V Mathematical Reasoning and Aptitude

Unit-VI Logical Reasoning
