UPSC CMS Syllabus and Exam Pattern
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Combined Medical Services (CMS) exam every year. The exam is held to recruit medical professionals for central and state health services. The selection process for UPSC Combined Medical Services includes a two-stage process: Written exam and Interview. The written exam consists of 2 papers, each paper (Paper 1 and Paper 2) is worth 250 marks, with 120 multiple-choice questions in total, and a negative marking of 1/3rd mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.

UPSC CMS Selection Process 2025
UPSC CMS 2025 includes 2 stages for the selection process ;
Stage 1 - Written examination: It is divided into 2 Papers - Paper 1(250 Marks) and Paper 2(250 Marks)
Stage 2 - Interview : Candidates who will be passing in written examination only those candidates are eligible for interview.

Both papers are multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and are conducted on the same day. Candidates will have a total of 4 hours to complete both papers combined. Both the exam have negative marking that is minus 1/3 marks for one wrong answer. Only those who score above the cutoff in the written exam will be eligible for the next stage.
- Interview; Candidates who qualify the written exam will be called for an interview, which tests their suitability for service as a medical officer. The interview typically carries 100 marks. The final selection is based on the combined score of the written exam and the interview.
