IPS Full Form

The Full Form of IPS is “Indian Police Service” and it’s included among the three most prestigious All India services i.e. Indian administrative services, Indian police services, Indian Foreign Services. The IPS was founded in 1948 and it comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Eligibility Criteria for an IPS Officer 

To become an IPS officer, aspirants must qualify for the Civil Service Examination which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The eligibility criteria required for an IPS Officer has been listed below:

  1. Nationality – Indian citizen
  2. Age limit – Minimum of 21 years and maximum age depends upon category and physical disability.
  3. Education Qualification – Graduate degree from a recognized university.
  4. Number of Attempts – Six attempts for Unreserved and EWS (More for other categories)
  5. Restriction on Applying – Officers already serving on the post of the IAS or IFS aren’t eligible
  6. Physical Standards – As per the Rule book of Exam.

Roles of an IPS Officer
