• Core Banking Systems (CBS): Ensuring the smooth, 24/7 functioning of bank software across branches.
• Cybersecurity: Protecting the bank’s digital infrastructure from cyber threats, fraud, and data breaches.
• Digital Banking: Supporting internet/mobile banking, UPI infrastructure, and ATM networks.
• Technical Maintenance: Overseeing databases, troubleshooting hardware/software faults, and ensuring IT compliance with Reserve Bank of India (RBI) norms.

To apply for the post of Specialist Officer in the IT stream, candidates must make sure they fulfill the required eligibility criteria. The criteria in terms of educational qualification and age limit have been discussed below. 

Educational Qualification (as on 21/07/2026)

All qualifications must be from a university/institution/board recognised by the Government of India or approved by regulatory bodies. Candidates must satisfy one of the following:

• 4-year Engineering/ Technology Degree in Computer Science/ Computer Applications/ Information Technology/ Electronics/ Electronics & Telecommunications/ Electronics & Communication/ Electronics & Instrumentation OR
• Postgraduate Degree in Electronics/Electronics & Telecommunication/Electronics & Communication/Electronics & Instrumentation/Computer Science/Information Technology/Computer Applications OR
• Graduate having passed DOEACC ‘B’ level

The Preliminary Examination for the IT Officer (Scale I) post comprises three objective tests, conducted online, with a total duration of 80 minutes and sectional timing of 20 minutes:

The Main Examination for the IT Officer (Scale I) post consists of a single Professional Knowledge paper covering core IT topics such as networking, security, databases, and software development. This paper comprises 150 objective questions and 2 descriptive questions carrying 225 marks in total. You will have 155 minutes to complete it, and the test is bilingual (English & Hindi).

IBPS SO IT Officer Salary 2026

Specialist Officers in the IT stream join at Officer Scale I and draw a structured pay package comprising a fixed basic pay plus variable allowances and perquisites. The basic pay is Rs. 48,480, and candidates will also be provided Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and other bank-specific benefits “as per rules of the Participating Bank in force from time to time.
